The SOLIDWORKS Application Programming Interface, or API, is used to automate and customize the SOLIDWORKS software. Using API can help you automate your own design processes, reduce design time, and eliminate any potential errors. Our introductory course will get you started using the Visual Basic scripting language (VBA) to access the hundreds of functions that provide direct access to SOLIDWORKS’ functions and features.
In this project-based course, you’ll learn API by creating macros that can do things like:
- Add features to a part
- Add components to assemblies and mate them
- Set up drawing documents
- Insert draw views, BOM tables, and annotation balloons
- Export projects using Pack and Go
By the end of this course, you will be familiar with the VBA programming language, the SOLIDWORKS API object model, and be able to easily automate parts, assemblies and drone functions. While programming experience with VBA is not required, familiarity with SOLIDWORKS is essential. We recommend that anyone interested in SOLIDWORKS API complete our SOLIDWORKS for Beginners and SOLIDWORKS Essentials courses first.
