SOLIDWORKS 2026 – Magnetic Line Support for Additional Annotations

|
By

SOLIDWORKS 2026 expands the capabilities of magnetic lines, which can now be used to organize more than just balloons. Notes, weld symbols, geometric tolerances, surface finishes, and even revision symbols can all be attached to magnetic lines, reducing the need for manual adjustment/alignment and “eyeballing it”. Our 2-Minute Tech Tip on the subject shows you to take advantage of this new enhancement.

A surface finish symbol, weld symbol, and a note being attached to the same magnetic line

In earlier releases, magnetic lines only worked for balloons, leaving you to align other annotations by hand. Now the same “fridge magnet” behavior available for balloons applies to (almost) all annotations. This allows you to create drawings faster while improving readability and organization for your viewers.

What you’ll see in this lesson:

  • How to align mixed annotations (notes, weld, GD&T, surface finish, etc.) in one pass
  • Switching between Equal Spacing and Free Drag for quick layout control
  • Limitations of this enhancement

Toggling magnetic line spacing from Equal to Free Drag mode for manual annotation control

This improvement to Magnetic Lines is sure to be useful for anyone working with drawings, so give it a shot and see what you think. To learn more about all the other additional enhancements this year, be sure to visit our What’s New in SOLIDWORKS 2026 series.
