If you’ve ever redrawn the same sketch geometry more than once or found yourself frustrated with an underdefined sketch that won’t move as a group, our latest 2-Minute Tech Tip will show you how to Group, Save, and Reuse Sketch Segments and avoid these issues in the future.
SOLIDWORKS Sketch Blocks allow you to group related sketch entities and save them as external files that can be reused and shared across multiple documents. By storing commonly used and standardized sketches in the Design Library as blocks, you can create a personal or team-wide library of ready-to-use sketch data.
Sketch Blocks are an efficient way to maintain consistency and cut down on repetitive work, but they can also be edited to tweak or scale designs as needed. And most importantly, any changes made to the original block file can be made to propagate to any designs which include that block, saving a potentially tremendous amount of design time.
Saving sketch blocks as external files makes reuse and updates easy across designs.
Sketch Blocks can also be used to approximate the motion of designs in 2D before committing to a full 3D design and are particularly helpful in the development of belt and pulley systems.
