Find and Organize 3DEXPERIENCE Files with Content Explorer

Finding and managing files in 3DEXPERIENCE is now easier than ever with the new Content Explorer app, which you can see in action in our latest 2-Minute Tech Tip. Designed as a web-based interface similar to Windows File Explorer, Content Explorer gives you a clear view of your data across all collaborative spaces you have access to, and includes tools to filter, search, and organize content efficiently. It is currently available in Beta mode within the Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS role.

The Content Explorer app provides several core functions within one unified interface:

  • Browse all accessible collaborative spaces in one place with a familiar, file explorer–style interface
  • Quickly find files using built-in search, filtering, and customizable views (thumbnail or table format)
  • View key file details at a glance, including maturity state, lock status, and file previews
  • Complement Bookmark Editor by enabling simpler file discovery across the platform
  • Open and access files directly within SOLIDWORKS via the 3DEXPERIENCE add-in

Content Explorer works well alongside the Bookmark Editor app, but serves a different purpose. While Bookmark Editor is ideal for organizing and structuring saved content, Content Explorer focuses on quickly browsing and locating files across all accessible spaces. For many users, this makes it a more flexible starting point when searching for data, while Bookmark Editor remains useful for curated organization.

Key columns available in Content Explorer include Collaborative Space, File Name (Title), and Lock status

The app is also accessible directly within SOLIDWORKS through the 3DEXPERIENCE add-in, allowing users to open files or browse additional content without leaving their design environment. This makes it a practical hub for day-to-day data navigation.

The new Content Explorer app provides a straightforward way to browse and open files stored on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform from either a web browser or from within SOLIDWORKS.
