Batch Convert 3DEXPERIENCE Files to PDF, STEP, and More without SOLIDWORKS

Files stored on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform often need to be shared in additional formats for manufacturing, vendors, or external collaboration. Our latest 2-Minute Tech Tip shows how the Derived Format Converter app can automatically generate formats like PDF, STEP, and DXF/DWG directly from batches of CAD files on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform without requiring SOLIDWORKS, saving time while reducing software licensing difficulties.

Generating a PDF directly from the 3DEXPERIENCE platform using the Derived Format Converter

Administrators can configure conversion rules inside the Collaborative Spaces Configuration Center, define which formats should be created, and control which users have access to those conversions. Once configured, users can generate derived files directly from the web browser or from within SOLIDWORKS in just a few clicks.

This workflow helps reduce repetitive manual exports while making it easier to distribute released CAD data across teams and suppliers. It can also automate conversions during approval workflows, allowing entire drawing packages to be processed automatically in batches.

Using the Save As command to generate a PDF manually from a drawing document. This process is automated using rules configured in the Derived Format Converter app.

The Derived Format Converter offers a simple way to streamline and standardize CAD data sharing while reducing dependency on individual SOLIDWORKS installations.
