Today, Friday, March 13 2015, is Digital Learning Day, founded to celebrate the use of technology to strengthen learning experiences. Emphasizing high-quality instruction, improved access, feedback through formative assessment, opportunities for learning anytime and anywhere, and individualized instruction, Digital Learning Day helps people reach their full potential.
Digital Learning Day, an initiative organized by the Alliance for Excellent Education, has provided a powerful venue for education leaders to highlight great teaching practices and showcase innovative teachers, leaders, and instructional technology programs that are improving student outcomes. This grassroots effort blossomed into a massive nationwide celebration as teachers realized that Digital Learning Day is not about technology, it’s about learning. It’s not about laying off teachers for laptops, it’s about enhancing the role of the teacher in America’s classrooms. Digital Learning Day promotes the effective use of modern day tools afforded to every other industry to improve the learning experience in
K-12 public schools.
“Since its debut in 2012, Digital Learning Day has been the premier event for showcasing how technology can improve student outcomes and support teachers,” said Bob Wise, president of the Alliance for Excellent Education and former governor of West Virginia. “Together, we can spread examples of what is working and encourage greater adoption of high-quality digital learning to ensure that all youth have access to those opportunities no matter where they live.”
STEM Education provides a great opportunity to implement Digital Learning. Flipped classroom strategies, project-based learning, and digital tools can help educators meet these rising expectations and foster deeper engagement in STEM subject areas. Each year, more than 30,000 educators will try something new on Digital Learning Day and share what they learned.
Here at SolidProfessor, we are proud to contribute to growing the Digital Learning resources available to educators and students. Digital Learning is an important part of the future of education and we are passionate about helping shape that future. Our goal is to bring the benefits of SolidProfessor to the education system around the world.
Matt May, Education Director at SolidProfessor remarks “The SolidProfessor Education team is always excited about Digital Learning Day because it shines a spotlight on the very essence of our partnerships with schools. For over a decade we have been working with schools and teachers all around the country to enhance the learning experience of engineering and architecture students through digital resources. Some teachers flip the classroom, some have hybrid classes, and some are completely online – but they all share the belief of how important using effective digital tools are with today’s learners.”
