SolidProfessor Partners with Workshops for Warriors to Equip Veterans with Advanced Tech Skills

SolidProfessor and Workshops for Warriors today announced a partnership to provide engineering and design training skills to Veterans and active duty military personnel to help them successfully transition to civilian engineering technology and manufacturing careers.

U.S. veterans face many challenges when returning to civilian life, including barriers to civilian employment. One of the main barriers is lack of preparation for finding a civilian job; skills developed during deployments don’t always translate to the civilian workplace.

Tony Glockler, CEO of SolidProfessor is committed to helping veterans transition into engineering technology careers. “Our veterans deserve every chance to succeed in the civilian workplace with the tools and resources to develop highly technical skills. The United States has a skills gap, with more engineering and manufacturing jobs being created than skilled personnel are being trained to execute. We aim to solve both challenges by working with returning service men and women to help them learn these skills and find placement in advanced manufacturing jobs.”

According to a 2015 Ford Foundation report, more than 2.3 million advanced manufacturing jobs in the United States are unfilled and over the next decade an estimated 2.7 million baby boomers will retire from this field. “We will always need welders and fabricators as we know them today, but the future of advanced manufacturing will exploit machines, not people. Today we train veterans to make products, but tomorrow we will train them to train robots to make products. Thanks to our collaboration with industry, trade associations, and our proximity to military bases and the Biotech sector in San Diego, our new center will remain on the cutting edge of technology,” explained Workshops for Warriors Founder Hernàn Luis y Prado.

Workshops for Warriors provides transitioning service members with quality training and educational programs for careers in the advanced manufacturing industry, at no cost to the students. SolidProfessor has partnered with Workshops for Warriors to further strengthen this student training by providing industry-leading online learning to supplement the hands-on experience they receive at the center. They’ve also partnered with industry leaders such as SOLIDWORKS and Mastercam and are supported by The Gene Haas Foundation, Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co., and others.

SolidProfessor’s online learning resources combines video tutorials, hands-on exercises, and skills assessments to provide an engaging and effective learning experience. Together, SolidProfessor and Workshops for Warriors hope to continue to reduce unemployment for veterans, meet U.S. market demand for more skilled workers, and aid veterans in successfully transitioning to civilian life.
