SOLIDWORKS 2026 introduces meaningful updates to drawing workflows, with a strong focus on automation and productivity. From AI-generated drawings to the expansion of magnetic lines to appl to more than just balloons, these enhancements help reduce setup time while improving drawing readability. This overview video of drawing enhancements in SOLIDWORKS 2026 highlights the most impactful updates for this year and also includes features introduced through service packs in 2025.

The headline addition for 2026 is Automatic Drawing Generation, which was technically introduced as a service pack enhancement for 2025, but received some additional improvements and mainstream attention this year. This AI-driven tool is still technically in Beta, but already produces some pretty impressive results. While automatically-generated drawings will likely still like need some adjustments, they provide a solid starting point by including views, section cuts, dimensions, and even basic GD&T. Automatic drawings can be created in batches, and are also processed in the background, allowing you to continue working while layouts are created.

Once drawings are generated, new detailing enhancements help clean things up quickly:

  • Magnetic line support for additional annotations, including notes, symbols, and control frames
  • Improved dimension line breaks, avoiding overlap with existing text and annotations and improving overall clarity

There were also several enhancements that debuted during 2025 through service packs. These enhancements are also covered in this video, as they are included in the 2026 version:

  • Addition of the new Family Table format for displaying configuration data directly in drawings
  • Flattened BOM option to consolidate quantities across the entire assembly

Together, these updates reduce manual setup, improve drawing clarity, and support more consistent documentation across projects.
